Donutful is a lower-sugar, “better-for-you” baked donut line, made with real cane sugar and about 25% less sugar than comparable donuts, that Better Bakehouse launched in 2023. The company says the recall followed a report that one consumer had an allergic reaction after eating the donuts. That person has since fully recovered, and no other reactions, hospitalizations or deaths have been reported.

What caused it
The company traces the undeclared milk to a mislabeling issue at its contract manufacturer. It hasn’t laid out exactly how milk ended up missing from the label, but says the manufacturer has since identified the cause and corrected it. In a statement, the company said it is “working with the contract manufacturer and retailers to remove any remaining affected product from the marketplace.”

Anyone with a milk allergy or a severe sensitivity should not eat donuts from an affected carton. If you still have the product, take it back to wherever you bought it for a refund. If you’ve already thrown it away — double-bagging or wrapping it first so it can’t be eaten by mistake — you’ll still need a receipt to get a refund without returning the product.
