Sony has revealed two limited-edition PlayStation 5 controllers for Grand Theft Auto VI. Each one costs $84.99 on its own (£74.99 / €84.99 / ¥12,480 in other regions) — five dollars more than the $79.99 asking price for Grand Theft Auto VI’s own Standard Edition — and that price is for the controller alone, not a bundle that includes a copy of the game. Sony announced the design, price and release timing in a PlayStation Blog post published September 3, 2026.

Two Vice City-themed designs
The controllers are DualSense Wireless Controllers, Sony’s standard PS5 controller line, redesigned around Grand Theft Auto VI’s Vice City setting. The White Limited Edition is themed on “Vice City at daybreak,” with a white base and pastel accents evoking the game’s beaches, skies and sunsets. The Black Limited Edition represents Vice City’s nightlife, with a darker color scheme and neon-inspired detailing. Both have a shimmering, color-shifting finish, palm-tree details molded into the controller shell, and a large “VI” numeral on the touchpad, along with official Grand Theft Auto VI branding.
Not Sony’s first tie-in controller
Custom-designed DualSense controllers tied to a non-Sony game aren’t new: specialist outlet GTABoom has tracked earlier tie-in designs for games including Hogwarts Legacy, Fortnite, Monster Hunter Wilds, 007 First Light and Genshin Impact. What stands out about this release, per that same outlet, is that Sony is launching two designs for one game at once rather than one.
Same hardware, no new features
Functionally, the controllers keep the DualSense’s usual haptic feedback and adaptive triggers rather than adding new hardware. The haptic feedback and adaptive triggers react to Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay itself, including moments tied to the game’s two protagonists, Jason and Lucia — but that’s the software talking to hardware Sony already ships, not a new capability unique to these controllers.
How to pre-order
Pre-orders open September 10, 2026, at 10 a.m. local time in each region — for example, 7 a.m. Pacific or 10 a.m. Eastern in the U.S. — through direct.playstation.com and participating retailers. Availability differs by edition: the White Limited Edition will be sold worldwide, in limited quantities, through PlayStation Direct and other retailers. The Black Limited Edition will be sold only through PlayStation Direct in the regions it’s offered there, with a smaller set of retail partners covering the rest. Sony has not said how many units of either design it plans to make.
Release date and GTA VI’s delayed launch
Both controllers are set to launch November 19, 2026 — the same day Grand Theft Auto VI itself is scheduled to release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That date follows two earlier delays. Grand Theft Auto VI was originally targeted for fall 2025, then pushed to May 26, 2026. In a Take-Two announcement reported November 6, 2025, the date was pushed again — from May 26, 2026 to the current November 19, 2026 target. Take-Two chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick has since reaffirmed the November 19 date in 2026 earnings commentary.
No Xbox version
The DualSense controllers themselves are PlayStation-exclusive hardware. Even though Grand Theft Auto VI is coming to both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, no official Microsoft or Xbox-branded version of the limited-edition controller has been announced — only unofficial, third-party custom Xbox controllers exist, sold separately by independent sellers and unrelated to Sony’s announcement.
