Clorox Puerto Rico Recalls 6.3 Million Mistolin and Lestoil Cleaners Over Bacteria Risk

Clorox Manufacturing Company of Puerto Rico is recalling about 6.3 million bottles of scented Mistolin and Lestoil cleaning products because they may contain bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, that can cause serious infections in people with weakened immune systems or external medical devices. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Clorox Puerto Rico announced the recall (CPSC recall number 26-741) on September 3, 2026. It covers products sold only in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands and does not reach stores in the continental United States.

Which products are affected

The recalled items are scented Mistolin Dilutable Cleaners in nine scents — Alegra tu Día, Espíritu Play, Flores de Primavera, Fresco Despertar, Frescura de Lavanda, Frescura Tropical, Manzana y Canela, Pino y Especias, and Sólo para Ti — and scented Lestoil Heavy Duty Multi-Purpose Cleaners in four scents — Energía del Yunque, Fuerza de Lavanda Tropical, Intenso Limón Boricua, and Olas de Rincón. They came in 28, 40, 64 and 128 fluid-ounce bottles priced at roughly $1.40 to $8, sold at Walmart, Sam’s Club, Costco, Supermercados Econo, Supermercados Selecto and other retailers across Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Unscented versions of both brands are not part of the recall.

How to identify a recalled bottle

Only bottles with a specific manufacturing code are covered. Each affected bottle has a date code printed on it that starts with the letters “PR01,” followed by a five-digit number in the range 25091 to 26168. CPSC says that range corresponds to products made between April 1, 2025, and June 17, 2026. A bottle without that code, or an unscented product, is not part of the recall.

Health risk from the bacteria

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a common environmental bacterium found in soil and water. It generally does not affect healthy people, but CPSC says it can cause a serious infection in someone with a weakened immune system or an external medical device if it enters the body through inhalation, the eyes, or a break in the skin. Neither CPSC nor Clorox has said how the bacteria may have gotten into the recalled bottles. No injuries or illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled products, according to the CPSC notice.

What to do if you have one

Anyone with an affected bottle should stop using it right away. CPSC and Clorox are directing consumers to register the recall online with photos of the bottle’s 12-digit UPC code and its date code, and then to dispose of the product with household trash; a refund follows. Not related to earlier recalls

This recall is not a continuation of an earlier Clorox cleaning-product problem some readers may remember. It is separate from the company’s October 2022 recall of Pine-Sol Scented Multi-Surface Cleaners, a different product sold nationwide. It is also separate from a $14.15 million civil penalty CPSC announced in January 2026 over how Clorox reported that earlier Pine-Sol hazard. It is also not related to Fabuloso, a bacteria-contamination recall from 2023 involving a different company, Colgate-Palmolive.
