As of August 13, 2026, the winner has not come forward and their identity has not been made public.

Where the ticket was sold

The ticket was sold at the Hy-Vee gas station at 310 N. 36th St. in Quincy, a city of about 39,000 people in west-central Illinois near the Iowa and Missouri borders. The store will collect a $500,000 cash bonus from the Illinois Lottery for selling the winning ticket.

The winning numbers

  • White balls: 4, 26, 66, 67, 69
  • Powerball: 9
  • Power Play: 2x — an optional add-on that multiplies non-jackpot prizes

Payout options

Whoever holds the ticket can choose between two ways to be paid. One option is the full $1.040 billion as an annuity: 30 payments spread across 29 years, each one 5% larger than the last. The other is a lump sum of $450.5 million, paid all at once. Both figures are before taxes.

Will the winner be identified?

Illinois law does not require the winner to be publicly identified. Anyone who wins $250,000 or more can ask, in writing, that their name and hometown be kept confidential when they claim the prize — a filing that could keep this winner’s identity out of the public record for good. According to published reports, the winner has one year from the drawing date to come forward and claim the money.

How this jackpot compares

The win is the largest Powerball jackpot won anywhere in the U.S. so far in 2026, and the eighth-largest in the game’s history, according to Fox Business.

  • Largest Powerball jackpot on record: $2.04 billion, won by a California ticket in November 2022 (according to Fox Business)
  • Second-largest: $1.817 billion, won in a Christmas Eve drawing (Fox Business)
  • No one had won the jackpot since May 2, 2026 — CBS News and Powerball reported Wednesday’s drawing ended a run of 44 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner
  • In Illinois, the Illinois Lottery said it’s the state’s second-largest lottery prize ever, behind a $1.34 billion Mega Millions jackpot won in Des Plaines in July 2022, and the third time a Powerball jackpot has been won by an Illinois ticket

Other winners that night

Illinois’ ticket wasn’t the only winner Wednesday night. A Massachusetts ticket matched all five white balls and added Power Play, turning the usual $1 million Match 5 prize into $2 million. Tickets in Arizona, Florida and North Carolina also matched all five white balls for the standard $1 million prize. A Sacramento-area ticket matched five numbers too, but was worth about $820,520 rather than $1 million — California pays non-jackpot prizes based on ticket sales and winner counts, not a fixed amount, so payouts there differ from other states.

What’s next

The jackpot reset again after the drawing on Monday, August 17, 2026 — held with an estimated jackpot of $34 million (cash value $14.8 million), 4X Power Play, and no jackpot winner, so the prize rolled over again. The next drawing is scheduled for Thursday, August 20, 2026, with an estimated jackpot of $48 million (cash value $21 million).
